Reaching the halfway point of my internship in England, I can confidently say London has been nothing short of unforgettable. From the city’s famously unpredictable weather to hidden alleyways full of character (and the occasional cab driver with questionable navigation skills), every day here has added to my appreciation of this vibrant, historic city.
One of the highlights of my stay so far has been a River Thames Boat Cruise: a beautiful and surprisingly educational experience. Sailing past iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Shakespeare’s Globe, and the London Eye, I gained a deeper appreciation of how London seamlessly blends its rich history with modern culture.
The variety of bridges along the Thames told their own story too, showcasing different eras of architectural design. This sightseeing tour confirmed just how proud London is of its heritage while still embracing the new.
Beyond sightseeing, my internship at a non-governmental organization in London has been equally rewarding. Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen how dedicated and knowledgeable the team is when analyzing current political and social issues in the Middle East.
What stands out most is their commitment to providing trusted, unbiased insights in a world where information is often polarized. Being able to contribute, learn, and grow in such an environment is something I truly value.
After work, I make it a point to explore London’s many neighborhoods. While I’ve visited popular destinations like Covent Garden, Oxford Circus, and Piccadilly Circus, I’ve also uncovered hidden gems that give the city its charm.
Some of my favorites include:
These places, combined with the company of the incredible friends I’ve made here, have given me memories I’ll treasure long after I leave.
The Intern Group has also given me the chance to experience some of London’s cultural highlights, like seeing the West End show Aladdin. The cast, performance, and energy made it one of the most unforgettable nights of my trip.
London’s food scene has been equally impressive. From a cozy Moroccan restaurant with authentic flavors to my go-to Greek spot (which I’ve revisited multiple times for its incredible dishes), the city’s culinary diversity has been a pleasant surprise. While my hometown is multicultural too, London’s food options stand out for their variety and authenticity.
So far, my internship in London has been the perfect mix of professional growth, cultural exploration, and personal discovery. Between my work at the NGO, hidden gems I’ve stumbled upon, and unforgettable experiences like the River Thames cruise and seeing Aladdin, I’m making the most of every moment.
As I enter the second half of my internship, I’m excited to see what new adventures, connections, and discoveries await. London is truly a city where history, culture, and opportunity come together, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be here.
