New York is an exciting and heady place to live and work. If you're moving to the Big Apple for a few months for your internship, you might wonder what to do in New York during your evenings and weekends.

From museums and theaters to relaxing walks around parks, we've got you covered with our favorite things to do in New York.

1. Take a cruise down the Hudson River

You can see some of NYC's most famous landmarks from the water by taking a 90-minute cruise down the Hudson. This charming little boat trip is the perfect weekend activity after a busy week at your internship. It will take you by Hudson Yards and Little Island, under the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, and to the Statue of Liberty! Snap some photos of iconic monuments and relax as the water guides you through New York.

2. Visit the American Museum of Natural History

The AMNH is one of the world's most famous and largest museums, bringing in around 5 million visitors every year. It has 45 permanent exhibition halls with approximately 32 million specimens that are switched around for display, as well as a planetarium and library, which means there's always plenty to see and do here! Not only does it promise an entertaining and fascinating day out, but you'll feel like you've stepped into a new world. The film franchise Night at the Museum was also set here, so you'll feel like you stepped into the movies!

3. See a show on Broadway

Broadway is one of the world's most famous places to see a show, alongside London's West End. This section of New York is home to 41 theaters, most of which are playing musicals. Seeing a Broadway show is a magical experience and there's plenty to choose from, including Hamilton, The Book of Mormon, Hadestown, The Lion King, Moulin Rouge, Wicked, and so much more. You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to evening entertainment!

4. Take a walk through Central Park

With 843 acres to explore, Central Park is the perfect place to go for a walk, a jog, a picnic, or even just a sit-down with a coffee. Alongside acres of beautiful green space, the park has eight lakes and ponds and 21 playgrounds. It's a gorgeous place to explore and has been used as a film location in 231 movies as well as TV shows. This makes it a hotspot for celebrity spotting!

5. Grab a bite to eat at Chelsea Market

Chelsea Market is one of America's most famous food halls. It's a common destination during walking and food tours and features a huge array of stalls and shops selling fresh food from rolls and sandwiches for lunch to heaty meals and artisanal cheeses and imported Italian goods. No matter what you like to eat, you'll find it at Chelsea Market, and maybe even a new favorite!

6. Go shopping in 5th Avenue

This is perhaps New York's most famous street, housing lots of luxurious retail brands and well-known shops like Abercrombie & Fitch, Cartier, H&M, Jimmy Choo, Nike, Rolex, Tiffany, Zara, and so much more. You'll love exploring this amazing street and doing a little bit of retail therapy. There's nothing quite like being able to say you bought something on 5th Avenue! If you're not one for shopping, this street will also take you by the Empire State Building, the New York Public Library, Grand Central Station, the Rockefeller Center, and the Chrysler Building, just to name a few!
