Since returning to the States, I’ve been asked the same questions again and again: “Amisa, what was the best part of your trip? What were your top three experiences? What did you gain? How did it change you?”
The truth is, it changed me completely, all in good ways.
Getting involved with The Intern Group quite literally transformed my life. The team was supportive every step of the way, not only helping us settle into London but also pushing us to grow professionally. One of the highlights of this journey was attending a Personal Impact Workshop at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), an opportunity that would normally cost hundreds of dollars.
Founded in 1904, RADA is world-renowned for its exceptional teaching, state-of-the-art facilities, and strong industry connections. Being able to participate in their Personal Impact Workshop was an incredible privilege.
Here’s how RADA describes it:
“This one-day course helps you become a more confident, effective communicator. You’ll learn to use your body, breath, and voice to improve communication, build stronger relationships, and increase your professional impact.”
By the end of the day, participants walk away with:
The workshop was eye-opening. We experimented with being fully focused on others versus fully self-focused and reflected on how our movements and energy affect the world around us. Some interns found it awkward or too “new-agey,” but I loved the chance to be so open and intentional about communication.
For me, it was a reminder that success isn’t just about knowledge. It’s also about how you move, adapt, and connect with people.
The best part came at the end: practicing answers to the inevitable interview question, “Why should we hire you?” We identified a recent achievement, a unique skill, and a dream for the future.
When I shared how much Communication Studies has shaped me, teaching me to adapt, embrace differences, and truly understand others, I realized just how passionate I am about my field. My partner even told me her goal was to find something she could feel as strongly about as I do. That moment stuck with me.
So when people ask me about my “favourite” (British spelling!) part of being abroad, I can’t choose just one, but the RADA workshop definitely makes my top three. It gave me personal insight, taught me how to maximize my impact, and allowed me to bond deeply with my peers (plus, free tea and biscuits didn’t hurt).
Cheers to The Intern Group for giving me such a powerful and life-changing experience.
