Germany’s capital has so much to offer a young person looking to intern abroad in an exciting international city. Berlin offers interns the opportunity to explore their career in a number of industries in the city. With several booming industries and a highly competitive and competent workforce, Berlin is an ideal city to learn the ins and outs of your industry, making long-lasting professional contacts.
This amazing professional opportunity also comes with the chance to make friends with other interns from all over the world. With your new international group, you’ll be able to explore Berlin’s exciting nightlife, enjoy picnics in the city’s many parks, try the many different cuisines the city specializes in and become familiar with the city’s vibrant art scene. Berlin has so much to offer an intern abroad both personally and professionally.
Interns will live in private bedrooms in a residence set up for students, young professionals and interns. The accommodation is located in a safe Berlin neighborhood close to cafes, museums and public transportation. Set up in this authentic accommodation within the city, interns will enjoy their time living the true Berlin experience. Moreover, Berlin is a highly international city and welcomes foreigners as many Berliners speak English. Apart from a safe and intricate public transportation system, Berlin also offers an extensive city cycling infrastructure – a healthy alternative to the typical commute.
Berlin’s culture has an eclectic mix of influences, as an international German city. The local art and design scenes are both very strong. The city also has a thriving film and television industry. Berlin offers cultural events throughout the year, namely the electro rock music event, the Berlin Festival. Other notable events include Stadtlichter, Sultans Fest, Berlin Circus Festival, Berlin Beer Week and Oktoberfest. Year round the Berliner Festspiele arts center also puts on a great deal of exciting cultural events, including a jazz festival and literature festival. In terms of culinary culture, Berlin’s got amazing food markets, highly influenced by immigrant populations. The Marheineke Markthalle, for example, sells delicious German and Turkish dishes. For the city’s best food trucks, head to Bite Club for tasty international foods like jerk chicken.
Berlin’s complex history is captured in the many historical sites, monuments and museums strewn across the city. The massive significance of the Berlin Wall, and its fall, will be more evident than ever to an intern sitting in front of the Berlin Wall Memorial (Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer), which shows how the structure once divided east and west. Across the Havel Riverhe, the Glienicke Bridge played a similar role in making up the border between West and East Germany and was used to exchange captured spies.
Among Berlin’s many beautiful sights is the Zoologischer Garten – Europe’s most popular zoo, featuring a vast array of species. Berlin’s Botanical Gardens (Botanischer Garten) and the city’s largest park, Tiergarten, are two other outdoor spaces that an intern abroad cannot miss. For a day or two of art and history, the Unesco heritage Museum Island offers five different museums in the same area by the River Spree, featuring Islamic, Hellenistic, Egyptian works. An intern abroad has lots to do to keep themselves busy during an internship abroad in Berlin.
