International internships are a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If you dream of traveling the world, Italy is surely on your bucket list. Why not build your CV at the same time? Italy is a great place to launch a career, expand your network, and enhance your CV. There are many worthy opportunities for international students.

How to get an internship abroad?

The first step to get an internship overseas is to choose your destination: Interns heading off to Italy will be thrilled to know that, alongside cities like Dublin and Madrid, it’s one of the most affordable destinations in Europe. There are almost endless possibilities as to where you can find an internship abroad, especially if your heart is set on Europe. There is no wrong answer as to where to do an internship abroad!

Why go to Italy?

This amazing country is home to some of Europe’s most famous cities, museums, and destinations. It has something for absolutely everyone!

Milan in particular is an excellent destination if you’re interested in fashion, business, design, engineering, and much more. It’s an incredibly global city, and is home to Italy’s stock exchange, as well as the headquarters of international firms and banks.

This city is also perfect for those seeking culture, history, and travel opportunities.

Easy travel across Europe

Milan is one of the most picturesque destinations on the globe. Located in northern Italy, it’s famous for high-end cuisine, world-class shopping, priceless works of art, and rich history.

Everything you could ever want can be found in this amazing city. That being said, it’s also a great home-base for those who love to travel. From Milan, you can easily explore all of Italy. Take the train to Florence to taste gelato and see Michelangelo's “David.” Or, head to Rome, Italy’s capital city and the site of incredible ancient history. If beaches are more your style, head all the way south, to Sicily, Sardinia, or Puglia.

Of course, Italy is also a central location for visiting the rest of mainland Europe! Milan’s international airport makes it easy to catch a quick flight, but you can also take a train or bus to neighboring France, Switzerland, or Austria.

Authentic Italian Food

Most people can probably agree that Italian food is amazing. Whether you live in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, or anywhere else in the world, chances are Italian food is at the top of your list.

If that’s the case, you’re in for a real treat, because there’s nothing like Italian food in Italy. From delicate handmade ravioli to mouthwatering gelato flavors, there’s something for every palate. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll fall in love with tiramisu and ricotta-filled cannoli. Carb-lovers will want to track down the best pizzas and focaccias (spoiler – they’re all great!).

The cradle of History & Art

Italy is home to some of the world’s most famous historical sites, as well as well-known works of art. If you’ve ever taken a European history or world history class, chances are you’ve studied some of Italy’s treasures.

For example, Rome’s Colosseum was built nearly two thousand years ago, and was most famously used to host gladiator fights.

The magical city of Venice, built on islands using a network of canals, boasts some of Europe’s most well-known and impressive architecture.

For art lovers, there’s truly nowhere better to spend a few days than Italy’s museums.

The Vatican Museums hold work by DaVinci, Michelangelo, and other famous and influential artists. And the Gallery of the Academy of Florence is an absolute must-see.

Affordability

Interns heading off to Italy will be thrilled to know that it’s one of the most affordable destinations in Europe. Transport, including busses, trains, and plains, tend to be cheaper in Italy than elsewhere in mainland Europe.

Keep in mind that the major cities – Rome, Milan, Florence – will have higher prices for most goods and services than elsewhere in the country. That being said, those cities tend to be incredibly walkable, so you’ll save money by bringing a good pair of shoes and a map!
