Engineering internship experience

Overview

Engineering is about solving complex problems through innovation, technical expertise and collaboration. While university provides the theoretical foundations, practical industry experience is essential for understanding how engineering projects are designed, developed and delivered.

Our International Engineering Internship Program connects students, graduates and aspiring engineers with carefully selected host organizations around the world. Every internship is tailored to your engineering discipline, experience and career aspirations, allowing you to apply your technical knowledge in a professional environment while learning from experienced engineers.

If you're interested in mechanical, civil, electrical, software, environmental, or industrial engineering, we'll help you find an internship that provides meaningful experience and supports your long-term career goals.

Why choose this industry

Engineering shapes the world around us. From designing sustainable infrastructure and advancing manufacturing technologies to developing renewable energy systems and innovative products, engineers solve the challenges that improve everyday life.

An engineering internship provides the opportunity to experience how engineering projects move from concept to completion while developing the technical and professional skills employers value. Working alongside experienced engineers allows you to strengthen your analytical thinking, technical communication and collaborative problem-solving abilities in a real workplace.

If your ambition is to work in design, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, product development, or emerging technologies, practical engineering experience can help you build the confidence, technical understanding and professional network needed to launch your career.

Elliot Kupchik

University of Michigan | Interned in Madrid, Spain

"What I've been doing is installing sensors in an autonomous car. It's a really cool opportunity that I'm excited to be a part of. It's definitely been a new opportunity for me to expand my horizons and learn how to work with groups from different backgrounds, but I'd say the greatest opportunity I've had is to get a glimpse of what my life can be like in the future."

María del Rocío Ramírez González

ITESM | Interned in Hong Kong

"As an engineering intern at my host organization, I was responsible for creating the new procedures, automating all of the main important business procedures within the company and also trying to implement new technology inside of the business processes and selection of the products... I picked Hong Kong because uh it will be my first time coming to Asia and living in the other side of the world...It is a great experience to have this full cultural immersion and working in a multicultural workplace."
