If you're considering an internship abroad, one of the most important steps is to ensure that you're eligible for a visa. Without the proper visa, you may not be able to intern abroad in your desired location.
For this reason, it's crucial to consider your eligibility early on in your decision-making process.
To make it easier for you, we've compiled all the essential visa information for each of our internship program destinations below. Once enrolled in your program, our expert team will provide you with any visa support you might need.

🛂 Visa Type:
- Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa
👤 Who’s Eligible?
To apply, you must:- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)
- Be a current student at a university or community college
- Have no criminal record
- Show proof of at least THB 40,000 (or equivalent) in personal funds
Additional Requirements (if under 20 years old):
- Notarized birth certificate
- Parent/guardian consent letter
- (If applicable) Marriage certificate of parents

- Cost: THB 3,000–20,000 (varies by nationality and application location)
- Processing Time: 1–3 business weeks

- Tourist Visa — This visa is intended for interns participating in short-term cultural exchange programs.
👤 Who’s Eligible?
To apply, you must:- Have a physical passport valid for at least 6 months after your planned departure from Ireland
- Hold holiday insurance
- Show proof of sufficient funds for your stay
- Have a booked outbound flight at the end of your program
- Print the letter provided by The Intern Group before arrival — this contains information about your accommodation and other program details

- Training Visa
👤 Who’s Eligible?
To apply, you must:- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a passport valid for at least 6 months
- Have at least HKD 30,000 (or equivalent) in personal funds
- Have no criminal record
📄 Visa Details:
- Cost: HKD 230
- Processing Time: Typically 4–6 weeks via the Hong Kong Immigration Department
- Application Method: The Intern Group submits your application — no embassy visits or physical passport submission required
- Visa Duration: Matches your internship duration
- Entry Type: Multiple entry

- Arriving early or leaving late? ❌ Not advised — this may expire your visa sooner or lead to overstaying
- Planning to travel after the program? You must exit and re-enter on a new visa

🛂 Visa Type:
- Tier 5 / Temporary Work – GAE (Government Authorized Exchange) Visa
- This visa allows you to intern in the UK under a short-term training scheme. A UK government-approved visa sponsor is required before applying.
👤 Who’s Eligible?
You’ll need a visa unless you:- Are an Irish national
- Have UK immigration status with the right to work (e.g., EUSS, Student, Graduate Route etc)
- Are eligible for British citizenship and can travel with a British passport
All other applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a passport valid for at least 6 months
- Be a full-time university student or a recent graduate (within the last 5 years)
- Show proof of at least £1,270 (or equivalent) held for 28 consecutive days
- Not have held this visa more than twice or for more than 12 months total
📄 Visa Details:
- Cost: £1,068–£1,300 (includes sponsor and government fees)
- Processing Time: Around 6–8 weeks after submitting a visa sponsorship application
- Visa Sponsorship: Required — The Intern Group will connect you with an authorized sponsor

The type of visa you'll need depends on the length of your internship:- Short stays (up to 12 weeks): Type C Schengen Visa
- Long stays (over 12 weeks): Type D Study Visa (Spanish class enrollment required)
👤 Who’s Eligible?
To apply, you must:- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a passport valid for at least 6 months
- Show proof of €3,000/month (or equivalent) in personal funds

👤 Who’s Eligible?
To apply, you must:- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a passport valid for at least 6 months after your intended departure
- Have holiday insurance
- Show proof of sufficient funds for the full duration of your stay
- Have a booked outbound flight
- Not having a criminal record
- Not have stayed in Colombia for more than 90 days in the 12 months prior to your internship

- Duration: 90 days
- Extension: ✅ Possible for an additional 90 days
- Maximum Stay: 180 days within a 12-month period
- Entry Type: Multiple entry

- Leave late? ✅ Same applies — extensions must be secured in time

👤 Who’s Eligible?
You may qualify if you:- Are 18 to 31 years old
- Have a passport valid for at least 12 months
- Can show functional English proficiency
- Have at least AUD 5,000 in personal funds
- Have no unpaid debts to the Australian government
- Have no criminal record
- Have not had a previous visa refusal from Australia
- (If required) Can provide a government support letter
- ✅ Already hold a subclass 500/485 visa or are a New Zealand national? You do not need this visa.

- Cost: Around AUD 650
- Duration: Up to 365 days in Australia
- Application method: Online, through the Australian Department of Home Affairs
- Processing time: Approximately 1–5 weeks
- Entry type: Multiple entry
- Enter Australia within 12 months of visa approval

- J1 (Intern) or J1 (Trainee)
- This visa allows international students, recent graduates, and professionals to intern in the U.S. for a limited time under a cultural exchange program.
👤 Who’s Eligible?
You may qualify if you:- Are at least 18 years old
- Hold a passport valid for at least 6 months after your internship ends
- Meet one of the following academic/professional criteria:
- 🎓 Current student: Enrolled full-time in a degree program outside the U.S. with at least one completed semester

- 🎓 Recent graduate: Completed a full-time, in-person degree outside the U.S. within the last 12 months

- 💼 Non-recent graduate: Degree obtained more than 12 months ago plus 1 year of relevant full-time experience
- 👔 Professional: At least 5 years of relevant full-time work experience outside the U.S.
- Can show proof of funds: USD 1,500/month of internship
- Can demonstrate non-immigrant intent (i.e., proof you will return home after your internship)
- Have not held a J1 visa in the same category within the past 24 months
- Are not a U.S. Green Card holder or F1 visa holder (no new visa needed if already holding one)
📄 Visa Details:
- Cost: Estimated USD 1,200–2,500 depending on internship length
- Duration: Internship duration plus up to 30 days before and after
- Entry type: Multiple entry
- Visa extensions: ✅ Possible
- Application process:
- Apply for visa sponsorship through a designated organization (assigned by TIG)
- Apply for the J1 visa at your local U.S. embassy (in-person interview required)
- Processing time: Around 8 weeks from sponsorship application

Temporary Visitor Visa
- This visa allows you to stay in Japan for up to 90 days for non-paid internships and cultural exchange activities.
👤 Who’s Eligible?
You may qualify if you:
- Have a passport valid for at least 6 months
- Can show proof of funds (at least JPY 500,000 or equivalent)
- Have no criminal record
📄 Visa Details:
- Visa cost: Approx. JPY 4,000
- Visa duration: Stay up to 90 days in Japan
- Entry type: Single entry
- Visa extensions are not allowed
- Processing time: Around 1 business week
- Application timing: You can only apply after securing your internship offer
- Application method: In-person at a Japanese Embassy in your home country or country of legal residence
