How to get academic credit for your internship:
-
1
Talk to your academic supervisor
Ask if you can earn credit for an internship placement, and how. If your school grants credit for internships, ask for the list of requirements (e.g. the number of hours you must complete, the type of internship position, or your internship host company). If your school or major will not grant credit directly, ask if you can transfer credit from another university and, if so, how many. We provide a transcript option through our partnership with Florida A&M University and you may be eligible to earn transfer credit.
-
2
Tell us you'll be doing the internship for credit
After your university has agreed that this is the best option for you, email academic.credit@theinterngroup.com to request the school of record forms. Be sure to include the amount of transferable credits your institution will accept. You will need to return your completed form to us at least 6 weeks before your internship program start date to finalize your enrollment in the school of record.
-
3
Complete the online course
We will send you an invitation to enroll in the course through our learning platform, which will consist of readings and videos that will help prepare you to get the most out of your internship experience and guided reflection opportunities during your experience. This self-paced course should be completed on your own time, but must be completed no later than one month after your internship end date. Upon completion of the course, your work will be graded.

5
Get your academic credit processed
Your institution will use the transcript from Florida A&M University to process academic credit.

-
The Forum on Education Abroad defines a school of record as “a U.S. accredited institution of higher education that officially documents and awards credits for programs or institutions that are not accredited in the U.S.”
The School of Record verifies and documents the educational value of a program, and issues a transcript to students, documenting their completion of the “course” and the credits earned. The School of Record charges a fee for this service.
-
Our school of record is Florida A&M University (FAMU), an accredited public university located in the USA. For a low additional cost added to your internship program fee, Florida A&M validates your experience and achievements in the internship program as if it were an on- campus course, and issues a transcript enabling you to ultimately earn credit that can be transferred to your home institution.
-
The number of credit hours depends on the length of your internship placement. Each 40 hour week of your internship program equates to 1 credit, subject to a minimum of 3 credits and a maximum of 12 credits.

You should tell your Admissions Consultant that you are interested in earning academic credit, but your final decision must be made at least 6 weeks before your internship program start date. If you wait too long after this date to make your arrangements, it may no longer be possible to satisfy all of the requirements.

If you are earning credit from your own institution, then your registrar or academic advisor can answer this question for you.
If you are earning credit through our transcript option, Florida A&M University issues transcripts several times per year, coinciding with their academic calendar. The transcript issuance date may be up to several months after the end of your internship program.
