What is it like to live as a law intern in Medellín?

Living as a law intern in Medellín means learning the rhythm of the afternoon downpour that tends to arrive like clockwork most days, with locals barely breaking stride as they duck under an awning until it passes. Once the rain clears, the city quickly returns to its usual pace. Laureles' tree-lined streets make for an easy post-work walk, with leafy cafés, restaurants, and neighbourhood spots to explore, quieter and greener than the busier parts of the city centre.

Lunch can become part of the experience too. A bandeja paisa with colleagues feels like something of an initiation, arriving as a plate far too large to finish but somehow still getting attempted more than once. It's an easy way to get to know the people you're working with while experiencing one of Antioquia's most famous dishes.

Weekends offer plenty of opportunities to get beyond the city. A day trip to Guatapé is a popular choice, with its colourful streets and lakeside setting making it feel worlds away from the working week. Climbing the steps up El Peñol is a challenge, but the view across the sprawling reservoir makes the early start and climb entirely worth it. Between work, exploring the city, and getting out into the surrounding countryside, life in Medellín quickly becomes about much more than the internship itself.
